Walt Whitman’s “Kosmos” from his collection Leaves of Grass muses on–and questions–the role of the numinous (“Who …”) in nature and in humanity. Originally from Sue’s Little Book of Benedictions for the Bloomington Unitarian-Universalist Church, this expanded version with viola solo was premiered with the Indiana University Contemporary Vocal Ensemble conducted by Carmen Helena Tellez in honor of the retirement of Chancellor’s Professor of Music Jan Harrington.
